Madonna della Corona Sanctuary: a place suspended between rock and sky

If you are looking for an experience that combines spirituality and natural wonder, the Madonna della Corona Sanctuary is a destination that will leave you breathless. Perched on a vertical wall of Monte Baldo at a height of 774 metres, this sanctuary seems to defy gravity, offering visitors a unique panorama of the Adige Valley and an atmosphere of absolute peace, ideal for those wishing to disconnect from routine.

Staying at the’Castello S. Antonio Hotel in Lazise allows you to reach the Madonna della Corona Sanctuary in about 40 minutes by car (approximately 30 km away). This proximity makes it perfect for an out-of-town excursion dedicated to discovering the hidden treasures of the Veronese hinterland, allowing you to return to the hotel to enjoy the sunset over the lake.

History and mysticism of the Sanctuary Madonna della Corona

The Madonna della Corona Sanctuary boasts a centuries-old history that has its roots in 1522. Here are the elements that make it so special:

  • Architecture in the Rock: The church is literally carved into the rock face, with the left wall and the apse formed by the mountain itself, creating an indissoluble bond between the work of man and nature.
  • The Holy Staircase: Inside the Madonna della Corona Sanctuary there is a reproduction of the Stairway of Rome, which pilgrims traditionally walk on their knees as a sign of devotion.
  • Works of Art: The complex houses bronze sculptures of rare beauty and numerous votive offerings that testify to the deep faith attached to this sacred place.

The view is great; you can see Lake Garda in the distance. The rooms are clean; we stayed in the main part of the hotel – the rooms in the annexe are a bit smaller, but spacious enough. The breakfast is good; it might not be particularly varied for some people’s tastes, but it’s tasty and fresh – for us, it was more than enough. You’ll need a car to get to Peschiera or the neighbouring towns. There are parking spaces both in front of the hotel and in the annex. The owners and staff are brilliant and very customer-focused. There’s a small pool at the back, and the trees make it feel cooler than the forecast suggests.

A splendid place with very attentive staff. Even though it was 36º outside, the swimming pool made this stay perfect. (They let us use it even after check-out, which was a gesture we really appreciated!) As well as the lake view from the room, until 10.30 pm we could access the panoramic terrace, where we could enjoy the sunset in complete relaxation. The small self-service fridge, which was always available, was also handy. A well-deserved 5-star rating.

An excellent hotel, well-maintained and situated high up, offering a beautiful view of the lake. It has all the facilities you could wish for, including a swimming pool and a stunning panoramic terrace. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is top-notch.

A lovely hotel at the top of the hill. A 25-minute walk to Lazise town centre with all its restaurants. It was fine for us. A small but decent pool. Very good air conditioning in the room and a good breakfast. Great service. We’d book here again.

Lovely location. Friendly people. Well worth a visit. You do need to be able to climb stairs, though.

A fantastic view, friendly staff – I’d love to come back.

A lovely hotel with a stunning view and very friendly service. Breakfast is small but lovely. Parking is very tight.... For the first 300 metres after Lazise, there’s no pavement, and walking there is dangerous, especially at night. Still, I’d be very happy to stay there again.....
